Our Hyatt Family is All-Inclusive

Hyatt-Family

I’ve heard stories of families shunning loved ones due to differing religious belief or opinions on whom they marry, amongst various other reasons. Thankfully, Hyatt is not one of those families. To be a member of the Hyatt family, you are welcomed with opened arms for everything you are and everything you want to be. It is this full inclusion to be myself at work that I am thankful to call Hyatt home.

At age 28, I chose to join the Hyatt family. I remember being interviewed by my soon to be manager who had a framed photo sitting on his desk of himself and his partner, also a man. At that moment I realized I would be able to bring my whole self to work. As a gay man, in the past I had often omitted the truth about what I did last weekend or who I was taking out to dinner tomorrow night. From Day 1 at Hyatt I never had to do this again.

The inclusive environment at Hyatt has allowed me to thrive and grow more than I ever have before. In my almost seven years at Hyatt I have held as many different job titles. Wow! Lets see if I can name them all: Overnight Front Desk Agent, Front Desk Supervisor, Front Desk Manager, Property Management Systems Trainer, Hyatt Gold Passport Business Analyst, Hyatt Gold Passport Associate Marketing Manager and now Manager of Hyatt Gift Cards and Certificates. Along this career path I have never lied to a manager, vice president or colleague about me being gay. Every level within the Hyatt family welcomes who I am and does not restrict advancement or career opportunities because of it.

Recognizing that not every candidate is going to have the experience of seeing that photo sitting on the hiring managers’ desk, two years ago, along with other lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgendered  (LGBT) Hyatt colleagues and our allies, I helped formally create HyPride, Hyatt’s LGBT employee network group. The organization has many functions, chief amongst them is to promote Hyatt as a welcoming, inclusive environment for LGBT individuals and their allies.  Visit our page on facebook.com/HyPRIDE to stay connected with our group.

If I can contribute as much as I have over the years to Hyatt, I can only imagine the potential of future and current colleagues, as long as they are being their true, authentic self everyday. Don’t hold back! Be yourself and be embraced with welcoming arms into the Hyatt family.
